Welcome to my new website

Hello Friends,

I’m so glad you found me.   I plan on occasionally using this “Blog” area to share some of my experiences and deeper thoughts.  I never know who might be interested in such things, but there may be someone who just might benefit from something I share, so I’ll do it.  I have so appreciated those of you who have followed my music and ministry through the years and taken the time to write me a letter, email or message on facebook.  Of course it’s extra special when I’ve been able to meet some of you face to face.  It was back in 1971 when I first felt called to pursue music as a ministry, not just a career.  I’ve recently read some things by CS Lewis that has really encouraged me in this and given me more understanding of what it means to intentionally give our talents back to God.  One of the blogs I’ve posted is the talk I gave when I was “ordained” on April 15th, 2018 at Calvary Chapel of Las Vegas, New Mexico, I share with you those CS Lewis thoughts.   Yes….. after 47 years in ministry, I felt that I should pursue getting “officially” ordained.  It did not not really change what I do in everyday life but it opened a few doors that I wanted to pursue living in Santa Fe.     So… I hope you drop by now and then and see what I’m up to.  I’ll still share a lot on FaceBook, but I’ll be able to go deeper here.  If you would like to hear about the incredible personal healing God has done in my life you may want to read my biography called “Seek Ye First: The Karen Lafferty Story”.  You’ll find a link to that on the home page of this site. May it all be the God’s glory.  He HAS been good to me and taught me how to live in His love and peace.  May you grow more and more into that in your life as well.

Bless you, my friends!   Karen

Ministry Activities

Local Ministry – Karen continues to minister with her local church, First Baptist Church of Santa Fe, by leading the Missions Team and participating musically with the Praise Team and the choir.   She also is asked by local churches to be a “fill in” worship leader.

Launch of the Art center: God has opened up the doors to fulfill a vision that YWAM and Karen have had since YWAM Santa Fe was launched in 1996.  This is for an art center that would be a place of performance and learning for many expression of the arts.  It would be based on a Biblical Worldview.   In May of 2023 the door opened to launch such a ministry as Karen connected with a local Nazarene church that had a very small congregation.  Karen was familiar with this location which was right in the middle of Santa Fe.  As she met with the Pastor of this church to inquire if he would be open to renting the fellowship hall and the kitchen to YWAM Santa Fe for a coffee house, the pastor offered the whole church, which included the auditorium.   They both felt this was from the Lord and the “Mosaic Music & Arts caré” was lauched on September 1, 2023 after spending several months to prepare the building.   More can be learned about this new ministry at YWAMSantaFe.org and on FaceBook at the Mosaic Music & Arts Café

First Christian Praise Recording in the Towa Language from the Jemez Pueblo

On September 28, 2013 Karen is helping facilitate a recording of six women that make up the Wahamini Singers from the Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico. This is the first time there has ever been a Christian worship recording released in the Towa language. Most of the songs were composed by the women in the traditional Jemez style of unison singing accompanied by a single hand drum. Marianne Millar, YWAM’s professional artist, will be designing a cover for the project. The women and other Jemez Pueblo Christians hope to be able to share their worship songs with many of their friends and family on the pueblo.

Karen’s Book in progress….

It was almost 25 years ago when a publishing company heard the ‘Seek Ye First’ story and asked me to write a book of that and other stories of my ministry. I did try….. but just couldn’t get it together. It’s always been in the back of my mind though.

About two years ago, My friend Becky Hefty, who is a great writer, came to mind as a possibility of someone to help me. She agreed and now we are in process. Becky and I are both very busy… she serving with Mission Builders International in Montana and editing other books; and I traveling the globe teaching and giving concerts. Every few months, Becky comes down to Santa Fe and we spend a few weeks on it. Basically, I am telling my story and she is writing it. So… I guess she’s my Ghost Writer . It looks like we may be coming up with two books…. the first more of a auto biography and the second will be more of a teaching book.

Becky is a joy to work with. I can’t imagine being more comfortable with anyone to tackle this project. I would appreciate your prayers as we continue to work on it.

Karen receives 2009 Radio Mic Award from George Hamilton IV

Karen has been associated with Paul Davis in England since he helped book her tours there in the 80s. Paul now heads up the organization New Christian Music. This organization has many facets, all of which help to encourage Christian musicians and promote their music.

Once a month NCM mails a promo CD with 20 songs on it to about 400 radio stations around the world.Karen has had four songs from her new worship CD Singing My Heart Out over the past two years. The list includes Singing My Heart Out, Seek Ye First, God’s in This Place and How Wonderful Your Name. The stations that receive these promo CDs can send a comment sheet back to NCM letting them know which songs they are going to give air play to and how they rate them.

Karen performs with others at the NCM Awards Weekend

From these feedback forms, NCM then determines which artist should receive a ‘Radio Mic Award’. Karen has been given a Radio Mic Award for three years in a row for ‘American Female Worship Artist’. All of the songs have rated high on the NCM charts. Karen was able to attend the NCM Awards Weekend at Leighton Buzzard, England to receive her award in March 2009.
